Standard medical cables and wires for medical equipments

While concerning about medical grade wire, the standard thing is the top most priority. These wires that are created are useful for saving lives and the result that meets the very best standards of quality. No matter whatever the wire is, medical cable and wire needs to be the best how much it can. There’s sure a basic thing that goes with each kind of wire, matching up these basics to your requirements will surely make sure that you make the right choice. Right from the shape to material, there are several to look for.
For starters, it’ll be able to match up the form which you need to the wire available at the time. Whereas coming back to the most commercial or residential wire it is the essential round shape, while the medical grade custom is different. In several cases, round wires as well as flat wire are very common, but you may also require a standard wire that has an open center or with stronger form that is designed for various types of application and machines utilized in today’s date medical industry. Once you wish for a specified wire shaped, you may go for medical shaped wire to get the type of wire that you need for your equipment.
The material that a wire is made up of will typically have a big impact on the amount of things like resistance, conductivity, etc. Whereas talking about copper alloys, stainless steel or any other advanced coating like anodized wire or electroplated wire, there are plenty of options available in the market to choose from There are wires which are made from gold, silver and platinum. No matter what the material type is, you will be ready to find out the one which matches your wants.
Coating or insulation is also an important issue to consider protecting the parts of the machine and ensure that their performance is at highest level. The aerospace industry has applications which can be very critical of weight

aerospace cables
The aerospace industry has applications which can be very critical of weight; Such as, missiles, rockets and satellites. When looking for ways to cut down equipment, payload, or satellite weight, the cable can be the last thing considered. One way to accomplish weight reduction in aerospace cables is to use metal clad aramid fibers for the shield and braid material instead of the standard copper. Aracon® is one such material which provides exceptional EMI shielding, strength and flexibility. Typically Aracon® fibers can reduce weight 60% in the braid, an overall reduction in cable weight of 26% on the average. Aracon® is combined with DuPont Kevlar® to provide high tensile strength and excellent conductivity. The large number of fine threads and the tendency of yarn to flatten and spread give this material more shielding coverage than copper. In the first photo you can see the amount of fibers on the end of the braid

Benefits for switching from copper braid to Aracon include:

  • Overall cable weight reduction
  • Added flexibility
  • Increased strength
  • Withstands repetitive flexing
  • Improved EMI shielding coverage

Aracon® fibers are manufactured by only one company Micro-coax Inc. The Aracon® braid can be purchased either with the braid only (sock) or having the braid manufactured onto cables by cable manufacturers such as Calmont Wire & Cable. Calmont has had great success manufacturing cables using Aracon® for the space and military related applications.

The cost of using this type of material is considerably more expensive than the standard copper braid. The cost savings for applications such as satellites where weight savings equate to rocket fuel cost, definitely makes it a value. Depending on your shielding requirements, Aracon® is available with several metallic coatings, thickness and fiber sizes to meet your resistance needs. Consult your cable manufacturer or Micro-Coax for options available to you.

If you would like to learn more about EMI shielding, Aracon® or similar materials contact Calmont today. Your comments are welcome and if you find this article useful, please share it.
